She took an interest in my poetry and gave me much advise for its contents and meaning. She helped me in so much as bringing me into contact with the work of Taras Shevchenko in the collection ‘Song out of Darkness’, as well as attending seminars, such as Shevchenko for Today in 2003. Vera did seem dishevelled and chaotic, but this was part of her charm for me. I am sure she will be sorely missed by all those who enjoy the company of a true individual. Vincent Berquez
