Нацыянальны акадэмічны тэатр імя Янкі Купалы ўпершыню выступіў на Туманным Альбіёне. 10 траўня купалаўцы прадставілі спектакль “Выкраданне Еўропы, альбо Тэатр Уршулі Радзівіл” на сцэне лонданскага тэатра “Блумсбэры”. Візіт найстарэйшай тэатральнай трупы Беларусі ў Вялікабрытанію адбываўся ў кантэксце моцнага палітычнага супрацьстаяння. Карэспандэнт “Тут і цяпер” пабываў на беларускай імпрэзе.
АДКАЗ ЧЭМБЕРЛЕНУ?
Імаверна, што за прыезд Купалаўскага тэатра ў брытанскую сталіцу лонданцы мусяць быць удзячныя іншаму беларускаму тэатру – Свабоднаму. Яшчэ ўвосень дэ-факта забаронены на радзіме Беларускі свабодны тэатр (заснавальнікі – Наталля Каляда і Мікалай Халезін) атрымаў запрашэнне ўзяць удзел у Сусветным Шэкспіраўскім фестывалі-2012 у легендарным лонданскім тэатры “Глобус”. Арганізатары фэсту паведамілі, што да іх звярнуўся пасол Беларусі ў Вялікабрытаніі Аляксандр Міхневіч, які заявіў, што заміж Свабоднага тэатра прадстаўляць краіну на сусветным тэатральным форуме мае дзяржаўны тэатр. Брытанцы здзівіліся і, натуральна, праігнаравалі патрабаванне дыпламата. Аднак у Мінску, выглядае, прыдумалі свой “адказ Чэмберлену”.
Дыпмісія Беларусі ў Лондане разам з Міністэрствам культуры ініцыявалі прыезд у Лондан Купалаўскага тэатру з пастаноўкай Мікалая Пінігіна “Выкраданне Еўропы, альбо Тэатр Уршулі Радзівіл”. Спектакль пастаўлены паводле трох п’ес княгіні Францішкі Уршулі Радзівіл – заснавальніцы прафесійнага тэатра на Беларусі. “Нясвіжская арлекінада” – гэта рэканструкцыя святочнага вечара ў Нясвіжскім замку. Спектакль складаецца з балета “Дасціпнае каханне”, оперы “Выкраданне Еўропы” і камедыі “Распуснікі ў пастцы”. Read more…

The reaction to the Kupalaŭski Theatre trip to London has been mixed among both British – to whom Belarus is of interest – and local Belarusians; visitors’ comments on this site are good evidence of that. Many have decided to go to see the play, some of them emphasised not mixing art and politics, a few decided to stage a protest nearby instead.
The local diaspora has mostly got excited with the unusual event: until recently it was more likely to see in Britain military choirs from Belarus performing Russian Kalinka-Malinka, than truly Belarusian art. We hope the Bloomsbury theatre will be full tonight and we will there too – occasions to see Kupalaŭski’s plays don’t happen often.
Sadly, the Belarusian government uses arts in its it’s own political games. Media in Belarus have been writing about the Kupalaŭski Theatre touring Britain and performing for charity. They are keeping quiet about the fact that the whole tour will consist of only one performance and it will not be charitable, unless that is what a free entry means. They are not saying that the performance has been organised in opposition to the exiled Belarus Free Theatre playing King Lear in Belarusian on the most prestigious English stage as part of the most exciting theatrical event of the year. All suggests that the Kupalaŭski Theatre tour was conceived in retaliation for an unsuccessful attempt by the Belarusian Ambassador to persuade the Shakespeare Globe to cancel the invitation to the Belarus Free Theatre. The Globe to Globe festival organisers pointed out to the Ambassador that politics and arts don’t always go along easily.
A year after the first presidential elections, the Naša Niva newspaper wrote that the main outcome of the President’s efforts had been a fundamental split in the Belarusian society. Tonight another … though small comparing to what is happening in Belarus will be drawn in. It’s fantastic that we have a chance to see the Kupalaūski; pity they could not bring the Tutejšyja (Locals) – their most spoken about production since Independence – it’s banned in Belarus.

Стаўленьне да прыезду Купалаўскага тэатру ў Лёндан – прынамсі сярод брытанцаў, каму Беларусь цікавая, – неадназначнае, пра што сьведчаць камэнтары наведвальнікаў нашага сайту. Шмат хто пойдзе на заўтрашні спэктакаль, некаторыя кажуць пра неабходнасьць адрозьніваць прыгожае мастацтва ад брыдкай палітыкі, іншыя будуць прэтаставаць побач.
Мясцовую дыяспару падзея таксама зацікавіла, бо нязвычайная: мы хутчэй звыкліся з гастролямі вайсковых хораў зь Беларусі, што сьпяваюць калінкі-малінкі, чым сапраўднай беларускай трупы. Спадзяемся, што ў тэатры Блюмсбэры будзе аншляг, і мы таксама будзем там – ня кожны дзень здараюцца нагоды пабачыць Купалаўскі тэатар.
Шкада, аднак, што беларускія ўлады выкарыстоўваюць мастацтва дзеля палітыкі. На Беларусі пішуць пра гастролі Нацыянальнага Купалаўскага тэатру і дабрачынны спэктакаль. Там ня кажуць пра тое, што ўсе гастролі гэтым адным спэктаклем і абмяжуюцца, што дабрачыннасьці там ня будзе, калі толькі пад ёй не разумець дармовых запрашальнікаў. Там ня кажуць, што гэты спэктакаль спатрэбіўся як адказ беларускамоўнай пастаноўцы Вольным тэатрам шэксьпіраўскага “Караля Ліра” на самай славутай сцэне Брытаніі ў праграме самага адметнага сёлета тэатральнага фэстывалю. Падобна, што ідэя гастроляў нарадзілася па выніках візыту беларускага амбасадара ў Globe, дзе той спрабаваў адгаварыць арганізатараў Globe to Globe запрашаць Вольны тэатар прадстаўляць Беларусь. Яму далі зразумець, што ў Брытаніі зьмешваньне палітыкі й культуры часта не вітаецца.
Недзе праз год пасьля выбараў першага прэзыдэнта Беларусі тады яшчэ віленскі штомесячнік “Наша Ніва” напісаў, што галоўным дасягненьнем яго кіраваньня стаў фундамэнтальны раскол у беларускім грамадзтве. Заўтра чарговы клін будзе ўбівацца, хай сабе й дробны. Добра, што знайшліся грошы прывезьці купалаўцаў у тэатральную сталіцу. Шкада, што не пакажуць “Тутэйшых”.

Forty years on, Belarusian activists in exile have played a vital role in galvanising opposition to Alexander Lukashenko’s regime. Since the elections in 2010, following the mass arrests and imprisonment of the opposition, some of the leading lights of the pro-democracy movement have settled in London and Warsaw where they have helped to shape a successful European campaign alongside human rights groups. Natalia Kaladia [sic! - ed.], artistic director of the acclaimed Belarus Free Theatre, had to flee Belarus following her arrest and the intimidation of her family. In a campaign with Index, her new organisation Free Belarus Now, which she runs with Irina Bogdanova, sister of former political prisoner Andrei Sannikov, has helped to persuade Deutsche Bank and BNP Paribas to stop doing business with Lukashenko’s regime.

The Taking of Polack — 1579. An Elizabethan Newssheet. The Journal of Byelorussian Studies, 1965, 1(1), 16-22.
That the taking of the fortress of Polack by Stefan Batory was considered to be a famous victory in its day is evident from the publication of this rare English newssheet in the year of the battle itself — 1579. The interest which this event aroused in England may be explained in part by economic and in part by political factors. In Elizabethan days the growing power of England’s fleet in the face of the threat of the Hapsburg Empire caused the merchants in London and the furnishers of the Queen’s navy to look to their sources of supply of “all necessaries for their shipping as Masts, ropes, pitch and tar, hemp and flax… from Pruceland, Leueland and Roussyay.” [1] Political quarrels with the German Emperor, and constant disputes with the once all-powerful Hanseatic League were having a detrimental effect on England’s Baltic trade, and forcing the London merchants to seek new sources of raw material by the northern route to Archangel and Muscovy. Усе посты пра суботнік
Суботнік атрымаўся фантастычны! Ён першапачаткова задумваўся як падзея для беларускай супольнасьці ў Лёндане, найперш для тых, каму цікавыя творчыя й інтэлектуальныя заняткі. Але вестка разьляцелася хутка, яе падхапіла Эўрарадыё і Наша Ніва, сябры распавялі сябрам, і ў выніку да дзясятка нас у Лёндане (былі й новыя твары!) далучыліся суродзічы ў Менску (зь Беларускай асацыяцыі журналістаў), Віцебску, Горак, Масквы, Вільні, ЗША, а таксама франкамоўныя канадыйцы з Квэбэку.
Атмасфэра ў Лёндане была фэерычная і працоўная адначасова. Хваляваньні зьмяніліся на захапленьне – было шмат добрай волі, бо сабраліся разам, каб ствараць новае, у што самі верым.
Ідэю супольнай працы на Вікіпэдыі падхапілі ў Менску некаторыя студэнты Лятучага ўнівэрсытэту – удвая прыемна!

The human rights campaign Free Belarus Now will be holding an afternoon get together at the Belarusian Catholic Mission’s Marian House (Holden Avenue, Finchley, N12 8HY, map) on Saturday, 28 April, 3 pm to commemorate the Chernobyl disaster. We will be joined by Dmitry Novik, a former Belarusian political prisoner; Dr Alan Flowers will be speaking about Chernobyl and Fr Alexander Nadson will say prayers for all those who where effected by the disaster. We are also asking wherever possible that everyone bring small toy with them to donate to the charity “Chernobyls Children”.
Snacks and drinks will be provided but all contributions will be greatly received.
