Наш вэб-сайт і Беларуская каталіцкая місія ў Англіі запрашаюць усіх ахвотных на Суботнік для Беларусі. Гэта будзе добрай нагодай сабрацца беларусам і нашым сябрам дзеля стваральнай працы на карысьць роднай культуры.

Тэма дня - Беларусь у Вікіпэдыі.

Вікіпэдыя цяпер – асноўная крыніца першапачатковых ведаў для вельмі многіх людзей у сьвеце. Беларуская прысутнасьць там параўнальна малая і часта – вельмі тэндэнцыйная. Каб крыху выправіць сытуацыю, мы будзем напаўняць Вікіпэдыю зьвесткамі пра Беларусь і беларускай мовай.

Пачатак а 10-й раніцы у Marian House (Holden Avenue, N12 8HS; Woodside Park Underground Station). Першай справай мы навучымся рэдагаваць Вікіпэдыю. Потым будзе час кожнаму вырашыць, пра што пісаць. Гэта могуць быць гістарычныя асобы, помнікі архітэктуры, стравы, паняткі з самых росных галінаў ведаў… Для гэтага побач – Скарынаўская бібліятэка з найвялікшым па-за межамі краіны зборам беларусістыкі.

Галоўная ўмова дня: пісаць па-беларуску (тарашкевіцай ці школьным правапісам) на любую тэму ці на любой іншай мове – пра Беларусь.

Пасьля абеду мы працягнем рэдагаваць Вікіпэдыю: кожны самостойна ці разам з іншымі – каму як прасьцей і цікавей. Недзе каля 16-й гадзіны мы падвядзем вынікі і разыйдземся.

Не спазьняйцеся – першую гадзіну мы аддамо правілам Вікіпэдыі, іх трэба ведаць. Вазьмеце з сабой ноўтбук ці tablet device, wi-fi будзе. Прынясеце таксама чаго-небудзь на абед, для супольнага стала. Каву й гарбату зробяць арганізатары.

An event to mark the UNESCO Mother Language Day

2pm – for the children (up to the age of 13) [organised by Karalina Mackievič]. Short poems, chat, whatever they would like to do in Belarusian. A small present for all the children who participate.

3pm – for the adults (13 and upwards) [organised by Alena Edwards]. Read your favourite Belarusian or English (or, indeed, any other language) poem (no need to learn it by heart!). The judges will award prizes, on the basis of a strictly scrutinised voting procedure with no possibility of ballot rigging, for the best readings: first – £25, second – £15, third – £10. The
awards are named after Dr Alexander Lutsko.

Contributions of food and drink will be very welcome!

Thanks to the generosity of the Association of Belarusians in Great Britain, the two prominent human rights lawyers, Hary Padhaniajla and Aleh Vouchak, may be able to attend a conference on the preceding Friday, and so be present at this event.

Radioecology in Minsk until his death in 1997.

Monday 19 March: Centre for the Study of Central Europe at UCL-SSEES invites you to the discussion GRAND DUCHY OF LITHUANIA: COMMON HISTORY, DIVIDED MEMORY, with Professor Norman Davies. The discussion has been instigated by his recently published book “Vanished Kingdoms: The History of Half-Forgotten Europe” (London: Allen Lane, 2011), especially the chapter entitled ‘Litva’, which invites us to reflect on a lesser known part of Europe, its history, legacy and memory. Professor Davies will be joined by two Lithuanian historians, Dr Zenonas Norkus and Dr Gintautas Sliesoriunas, and the Chairman of the Anglo-Belarusian Society, Jim Dingley, in order to reflect on the extraordinary life and troubled afterlife of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Richard Butterwick. Following questions from the floor, there will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of Vanished Kingdoms.

The event is supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian Institute of History and University College London.

19 March, 5 pm to 7 pm, University College London, Wilkins Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre (Gower Street gate; UCL main quad, south-east corner entrance). Free entrance, no prior registration.

Next event of the Anglo-Belarusian Society will be a presentation of two newly published books, The Last Dictatorship in Europe: Belarus under Lukashenko by Brian Bennett (UK Ambassador to Belarus, 2004-2007) and Belarus: The Last European Dictatorship by Andrew Wilson (Reader in Ukrainian Studies, School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London).

The event will take place in London, at Marian House (corner of Holden Avenue and Holden Road, London N12 8HY, nearest tube station: Woodside Park) on Thursday 26 January, 7pm.

Admission free; a collection will be taken to cover expenses. Refreshments will be served.

Распачаўся продаж квіткоў на дзьве новыя пастаноўкі Беларускага вольнага тэатру (Free Belarus Theatre) ў Лёндане: шэксьпіраўскага “Караля Ліра” і “Мінск 2011″ Уладзіміра Шчэрбаня.

“We call upon the power of art to disturb the sleep of conscience” – The artists manifesto

Join us on December 19th to mark a year a since Lukashenko’s vicious crackdown on dissent and political opposition in Belarus. On this day a year ago around 50,000 Belarusians gathered peacefully to demonstrate against the unfair election. They were met with violent oppression.

Around 2,000 people were arrested and detained en masse in Minsk. There are still 16 political prisoners who are kept under appalling conditions and are routinely tortured. Two of these are presidential candidates Andrei Sannikov and Nicolai Statkevich.

We will gather outside the Belarusian Embassy (6 Kensington Court, Kensington London, W8 5DL) at 4.30pm and together with British artists will deliver an artists’ manifesto signed by, amongst others, Tom Stoppard, Eric Fischl and Sam West calling for the immediate release of all detained political prisoners.

The demonstration will follow a press launch of the artists’ manifesto at the Serpentine Gallery.
