У мінулую суботу, 19 лютага, адбыўся пратэст ля беларукай амбасады ў Лёндане. Яго арганізаваў Беларускі Камітэт – супольнасьць пазаўрадавых арганізацыяў і прыватных асобаў. Камітэт перадаў беларускаму амбасадару, Аляксандру Міхневічу, зварот з патрабаваньнем вызваленьня палітычных вязьняў і заклікам да новых, свабодных выбараў.

Dear Ambassador Mikhnevich,
It is with sorrow and regret that I have to protest to you personally, on behalf of the Vice-Presidents and Council of the Anglo-Belarusian Society, at the disproportionate savagery of the security forces used in Minsk on Sunday last against demonstrators on Independence Square.
On the face of it, the initial result of the election seemed to be such a massive vote in support of the incumbent President as to render violent action against a tiny opposition not only pointless but counter-productive. The feeling engendered is simply this: if such actions are necessary, then the result given to the public does not represent the true picture, and the President is acting out of insecurity. It then follows that there must have been falsification on a grand scale. Whether or not there really were falsifications becomes immaterial, because everyone will believe that there were. And, as a consequence, more faith will be placed in the exit-poll figures of INSIDE and BelSat than in those provided by ECOOM or in the final results announced by Mrs Yarmoshina. The individuals seen smashing windows and doors of Government House will be regarded as agents provocateurs acting for the authorities.
There can be no comparison between the actions of the security forces in Minsk and the measures employed by the police against student demonstrators during the recent incidents of unrest in London. True, the police at times probably employed an excessive amount of force, but there are mechanisms here by which individuals can be held to account for their actions. By contrast – where in Belarus are the mass-circulation daily newspapers or universally accessible TV stations that can freely report on, for example, the cowardly attack on Uladzimier Niaklajeu and his subsequent abduction from hospital? Or on the detention of leading figures of the Minsk Free Theatre? Incidentally, this latter action provides ample fuel for the Index on Censorship campaign.
I now find myself in a position of having to protest also at the very possibility of any of my tax money being channelled through the EU to Belarus with its present government; I am sure that I am not alone in this.
As I said, I write with regret. I had always hoped that some form of rapprochement with the authoritarian style of President Lukashenka might be possible. I now realise that I was probably mistaken.

Звыш пяцідзесяці чалавек далучыліся сёньня да пратэсту ля будынка беларускай амбасады ў Лёндане. Удзельнікі пратэставалі супраць масавых арыштаў у дзень прэзыдэнцкіх выбыраў 19 сьнежня мінулага году, затрыманьня сямёх кандыдатаў у прэзыдэнты, парушэньня правоў вязьняў, якія дагэтуль знаходзяцца ў вязьніцы КГБ у Менску, масавых ператрусаў у хатах грамадзкіх актывістаў, офісах арганізацыяў і рэдакцыях СМІ, – запужваньня грамадзянскай супольнасьці ў Беларусі.
Удзельнікі трымалі плякаты “New and Free Elections for Belarus”, “Free Political Prisoners”, “Free Belarus”, “No More Dictators”; сваякі Алеся Міхалевіча, Андрэя Саньнікава й Ірыны Халіп трымалі здымкі іх і іх дзяцей з надпісамі “Вярніце нам татку” і “Give Dan’ka His Parents Back”.
Дэманстранты скандавалі “Свабоду палітвязьням!”, “Новыя выбары без Лукашэнкі” й “Жыве Беларусь!”
Журналіст Алесь Чайчыц зачытаў імёны арыштаваных і што вядома пра іх, апавёў аб прэс-рэлізе беларускага амбасадара ў Аб’яднаным Каралеўстве, у якім сьцьвярджаецца, што ўмовы ўтрыманьня вязьняў добрыя й іх правы захоўваюцца. Апошняе выклікала абурэньне й сьмех адначасова, бо не сакрэт, што да вязьняў не дапускаюць нават іх адвакатаў.
Неаднаразова падчас пратэсту гучаў напамін, адрасаваны тым, хто зьдзяўсьняе масавыя злачынствы ў краіне: нічога не забыта й не прабачана, прыйдзе час даць справаздачу за ўсё.
Ірына Багданава, сястра Андрэя Саньнікава, казала пра боль і страх за свайго брата з яго жонкай Ірынай Халіп, зьбітага й кінутага ў “амэрыканку” КГБ, і пра лёс якога сям’я толькі па кропельках даведваецца ад іншых людзей.
Слова таксама ўзялі кіраўнік Беларускай каталіцкай місіі а. Аляксандар Надсан і сябра Ўправы Згуртаваньня беларусаў у Вялікай Брытаніі Мікола Пачкаеў.
Удзельнікі акцыі хвілінай маўчаньня ўшанавалі памяць зьніклых Віктара Ганчара, Анатоля Красоўскага, Юрыя Захаранку й Зьміцера Завадскага. Цяпер зьняволеная журналістка Ірына Халіп была ініцыятарам ушанаваньня іх памяці 16-га кожнага месяца, што было нагодай і для сёньняшняй акцыі.
На заканчэньне былі прачытаныя вершы Ўладзіміра Някляева, зьбітага й зьняволенага кандыдыта ў прэзыдэнты, і прасьпяваны гімн Магутны Божа.

The Association of Belarusians in Great Britain notes the statement by Minister for Europe David Lidington MP of 20 December 2010 condemning “all violence surrounding” the 19th December Presidential Election in Belarus, and supports HM Government’s call “on the Government of Belarus to apply the rule of law impartially and effectively, to inform the public of the location of those detained and to refrain from further acts of intimidation and violence”.

Многія з нас часта цураюцца палітыкі і не хочуць яе датыкацца. Гэта
зразумела і нармалёва, у жыцці кожнага чалавека сапраўды ёсць куды больш
важныя і прыемныя рэчы, чым гэта.
Але бываюць моманты, калі пачуцце самапавагі прымушае праявіць грамадзянскую
пазіцыю. Усім вядомыя падзеі апошняга месяца ў Беларусі – мне здаецца, той

саджаюць на Акрэсціна і не збіваюць АМАПам. Асабіста для мяне гэта азначае,

2. Background:
The 19th December presidential vote in Belarus came in the wake of the brutal arm-twisting and gagging of society by the regime of President Alexander Lukashenka, as well as reports of widespread and systematic vote-rigging in preparation for the declaration of a falsified result. It was dominated by an illegitimate candidate – the incumbent President, who has ruled the country for over 16 years like a dictator. His second legitimate term in office expired in 2006 and this would be his forth.
